上世纪三十年代末，十七岁的丁香被迫嫁给了裴文栋为妾。裴文栋已有正房梁惠娴所生下的两个女儿金珠和宝珠，眼见裴家要断了香火，裴文栋急召胞弟裴文棣，强行安排他与自己选定的梅玉娟成亲，婚后裴文棣不辞而别，梅玉娟生下裴家老四玉珠后抑郁而亡。解放后，裴文栋撒手人寰，丁香毅然带着金珠、宝珠、珍珠、玉珠回到省城，开了一家小吃店，与孩子们艰难度日。不久，她生下一个男孩，取名振达。十年过去，孩子们长大成人。而梁惠娴因为裴家老宅“信园”的房契，和振达的身世之谜一直对丁香刁难盘问。裴文棣突然出现，但却与亲生女儿玉珠形同陌路。。One day, thinking that it will make your wife and friends smile, you shave off the moustache that you have had for the last ten years.
